2017 Spring Meeting

LaSalle Make and Take-Spring 2017 Workshop

Presenters: Jay Bagley and Bill Berner

AAPT/SEPS will hold its second Make and Take workshop at LaSalle on February 11, 2017. Come and explore new ways of teaching Electricity and Magnetism! Create materials that you can use in your classroom the next day! As always, there will be giveaways such as: steel magnets, revolutions, magnetic chips, pairs of magneto-ids, the world's simplest motor, and more. Click here to register or to learn more.

Annual Holiday Demonstration Show at Penn

The University of Pennsylvania Department of Physics and Astronomy presented its annual Holiday Demonstration Show on Monday and Tuesday, January 9 & 10, 2017.

BRYN MAWR OPEN HOUSE, October 8, 2016

This second open house workshop, offered by Southeast Pennsylvania AAPT at Bryn Mawr College, will take place on Saturday, October 8, from 9 am to noon.

The first workshop was held on Saturday, May 21st. Click here to see Barry's slides of the workshop, which was an Open House at the introductory lab to explore any of the 16 labs set up for the spring semester, covering a variety of topics in mechanics, E&M, and waves.


The Southeast Pennsylvania section FALL DEMO DAY was held on Saturday October 15 at the Science Leadership Academy at 55 N 22nd Street, Philadelphia. Fall Demo Day is the event where we share a variety of hands-on demonstrations and hold discussions about topics of interest. The demonstrations and topics vary each year, but always include items you can use in your own classroom.

Free SEPS/AAPT Workshops (2015-2016)

The third workshop in the series took place at LaSalle on October 29. The topic was "Exploring the Mechanical Universe", and the workshop was presented by Bill Berner, Jay Bagley, and Bob Schwartz.

The first Workshop was held on Saturday Oct 3rd 2015 at Saint Joseph's University. This hands-on workshop, on the theme of "Measuring Mass", was presented by Barry Feierman and Kathleen McElroy. Click here to see Barry's slides of the workshop. The second workshop (Electricity and Magnetism) was held February 6 2016 at LaSalle.


The 2017 United State Young Physicists Tournament, USAYPT, will be held in January 2017 at University of the Sciences. The Physics Academy has been organized by University of the Sciences and Phoenixville High School to engage more High Schools in the tournament.

The 2016 Spring Meeting was held Friday and Saturday April 1-2, 2016, at Saint Joseph's University. It featured Friday night dinner with guest speaker Paul Hewitt, Saturday morning invited speakers, and Saturday afternoon workshops.

Invited speakers: Paul Steinhardt (Princeton University) spoke on "Once Upon a Time in Kamchatka" (his travels to the far east of Russia and research into quasicrystals); Rick Van Berg (University of Pennsylvania) spoke on "Sixty Years of Experimental Neutrino Physics...A Somewhat Personal Perspective". Workshops: Jim Ferrara presented a workshop about teaching the new AP1 and AP2 Physics curricula; PASCO presented a hands-on workshop on their CAPSTONE software and accompanying hardware.
