This device illustrates the motion of free charges in a conductor under the influence of an electric field. It is a four-foot-long clear Lucite tube. A number of plastic dowels have been positioned, at random, along one side of the cylinder's inner surface. Ping-pong balls introduced at the high end will execute a directed random motion toward the lower end of the tube.
