Our Trout Unlimted Chapter started work on improving the small stream, Harper's Run, that flows into the Pennypack Creek
at the lower end of Lorimer Park. Harper's Run starts in the higher sections of Huntingdon Valley and empties
into the Pennypack right below Lorimer Park's parking lot.
We had thirteen members come out for the first workday of this season. Mike Mulray has taken over from
Mike Wilson as this year's project coordinator for Harper's Run. Mike successfully coordinated the enthusiastic
and hard working volunteers in putting in 6 log and stone
structure devices at strategic points according to the PA Fish and Boat Commission overall plan for improving the fish habitat for Pennypack Creek.
These structures will provide cover and holding water for better supporting aquatic life. Harper's Run is beautifully shaded by tall mature hardwood trees that cover the entire stream.
Also we heard from Den Mora and Mike Wilson that they saw several small trout in couple of pools while reconnoitering
the area a week earlier. So the potential for making a significant improvement on this small stream is really here.
