---------- press release March 3, 2004 ----------
On Saturday, April 24, 2004, the local Trout Unlimited chapter (Southeastern PA Trout Unlimited Chapter #468), based at the Pennypack Ecological Trust on Edge Hill Road in Huntingdon Valley, will be sponsoring a kids fishing day with the 2-228th Family Support Group at the pond of the TU Chapter president, Mark Munn, which is located along Pennypack Creek in Hatboro, PA.
The purpose of the event is to have the children of members of the U.S. Army Reserve Unit, the 2-228th Aviation Regiment,, which is based out of Willow Grove Naval Air Station and is now serving in Iraq, enjoy themselves outdoors all day Saturday by fishing at Mark Munn's pond off Warminster Road in Hatboro.
All necessary fishing equipment (fishing rods and bait) is be provided by the Pa Fish and Boat Commission and the Trout Unlimited members will be there to supervise the event by keeping a close eye on the kids and providing any help needed in fishing.
TU Chapter #468 has recently stocked the pond with trout, in anticipation of the event, and there is a regular population of sunfish and bass, so we are confident that fish will be caught.
We are calling this event the "Patriot Fishing Derby" and we expect about 30 children to participate in addition to their 'stay at home' parents to enjoy this event.
There will be food and drinks available in a picnic atmosphere.
The event will start at 10:00 AM and will continue into the afternoon.
The pond is on Mark Munn's property and it is located 500 S. Warminster Road very close and across the road from the Hatboro train station.
We welcome the local press to cover this good will event. This will be our way of saying "Thank you to our local service men and women serving overseas" by allowing a small group of their kids to enjoy themselves in something that they normally would not easily be exposed to. Our Trout Unlimited chapter also participates in other local fishing derbies which are held month or two later (the Rotary Club fishing derby on the Pennypack Creek, Alvathorpe Park in Abington and Kleindients Pond in Cheltenham).

Trout Unlimited is a national as well as a local volunteer conservation group as described in our website: http://dept.physics.upenn.edu/~wk/SEMCTU.html
"We are a grass roots group of dedicated fishermen in the Philadelphia region (Southeastern Montgomery County, Northeast Philadelphia and neighboring parts of lower Bucks County), whose purposes are :
1. To conserve, protect and restore our local cold water streams and fisheries and their watersheds.
2. To study, understand and enhance our
wild trout resources.
3. To pass on our love and knowledge for the sport to the next generation of anglers in our area. This is done by person-to-person interactions, by group participation at meetings and activities and with partnership with other local organizations during community fishing derbies and stream cleanup days."
